Lithotripsy

Posted by cindyc @cindysummit, Feb 4 4:11pm

Hi everyone,

My common duct is 6 mm and my gallstone is 1.4 cm.

I am going to see my Urologist about my excellent scan results for kidney cancer (15 months cancer-free) but will discuss the gallstone issue with him as well.

Has anyone had lithotripsy? I have heard it is successful and a quick recovery.

Anyone have experience with this?

Cindy

@cindysummit my husband had that procedure for a kidney stone many years ago in Buffalo (Ontario, Canada did not have this technology in place at hospitals at the time, so thankfully our Ontario government health plan allowed him to be referred to a hospital in Buffalo). He was sedated but awake for the procedure and he found it relatively painless.

I have never heard of gallstones being treated through this procedure, but I would imagine it’s done the same way as kidney stones are.

Hi @cindysummit, Hoping you get some answers at your doctors appointment today. I did a search on Connect for others who have had the lithotripsy procedure and thought you might want to scan through the discussions and comments shared by other members. Here are the search results - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/?search=Lithotripsy
