I’ve tried several antidepressants over 7 years of chronic digestive disorders. Unfortunately I get too tired from them and I’m already fatigued. I have been on .50 mg Klonopin anti anxiety med as needed for years now .
It def helps when I’m overwhelmed.
Xanax may help you too .
Good Luck 🍀, it’s hard :/ .

Klonopin has been a life saver for my functional dyspepsia. After a multitude of tests my doctor thought so might have FD and gave me a script for Klonopin. At first, I was very skeptical, but I had been in so much pain for so long and had lost so much weight. I decided to try it. It worked, and I didn’t have to take it very long.

Just to be clear, Klonopin (Clonazepam) is a benzodiazepine, an addictive anti-anxiety med (not a med usually prescribed for depression). If taken short term, as it sounds like you did, and in low doses, it should be fine. Taken long term, dependence builds up and it takes a larger dose to get the same results. And once addicted, withdrawal from this class of drug is very uncomfortable.

The Rx came from your Dr and it sounds like you've already stopped and it helped. That's great news indeed.

Yes, I am currently on Lexapro 5mg. Started at 2.5 mg and it worked for awhile so I just went up to 5mg. So far so good. Not a total cure but definitely better.
Helping with my nausea, epigastric pain and fullness after meals. I also try to adhere to a low fermentation diet ( easier on the stomach) and I fast in between meals.

Good evening,
I'm curious how the Klonopin helped you. Did it stop your pain and if so, how did that happen if it is an anti depressant ? I'm very curious. I'm in the same predicament you are. Just diagnosed today after 2 years of pain and long list of tests that my condition is unknown and likely FD. I just can't take anti depressants - it will just take so much out of me. If I can believe the drug will stop the pain, I just might be able to consider it but that is a big "IF". Thanks for any help you can provide. 🙂

I realize your post is a few years old so I hope you are doing well and would like to know what treatments they offered. I was recently diagnosed with Functional Dyspepsia and have started a low dose tricyclic, Desipramine 25mg but I still have the upper abdominal burning (not inside the stomach itself). What has been helpful for you?

I had esophagitis pain, burning pain top of stomach, pressure in my throat, loud hiccup burps, which got worse as the day went on - every day - for 9 months - lost a lot of weight. Had all the tests - barium follow through, endoscopy, h pylori - all normal - was given PPI which did nothing. Then got to see GI Physician Assistant - who looked at the tests I had printed out, and immediately said it looked like I had functional dyspepsia- and asked if I had been ill before it started - which I had with sinus infection/awful taste in mouth/ear infection! I was given 6 week prescription of 10mg Amitriptyline daily at night, then follow up appointment- and although was told would take couple of weeks to take effect - I felt it work in few days - was groggy first morning, but that went away. I still have light symptoms - but I have gained weight back, and have my life back! I have been continued on the same dose after my follow up appointment as I was still having light symptoms!
