Overwhelming lumbar spine pain; most of the time I can't sit down.
In 2022, I fell hard onto a concrete floor. I slipped, went airborn, and slammed down onto a concrete floor; my lumbar spine was the point of initial contact, then thoracic spine hit, and then cervical.
MRI of pelvis and sacrum (June 2022) revealed bulging disks. No broken bones. No contrast was used. Would using contrast show/highlight anything that a standard MRI might miss? I currently use lidocaine patches daily for a little relief and Tizanidine, 4mg 3x/day for muscle spasms throughout my back.
What type of physician (what specialty) do I see that could possible help me? I have a neurologist who reviewed all of my films, reports etc. and she saw nothing in my films that would explain my pain.
Does anyone have any insight into what I am describing?
Thank you in advance.

Just MRI of pelvis and sacrum. MRI of brain and MRA of brain to rule out a brain bleed. I had an x-ray of the thoracic done June 2023 and I have buldging disks throughout. I am going to get the reports from all of my MTS's and xrays and start from square 1.
Thank you for your reply. I really do appreciate it!
When my body goes into a flare (lasts 6-8 days) I depend on edibles. I live in a state where it is legal as long as you medically cleared to have a Medical Cannibis Card from the state. I will look into an ointment. Thank you!
Hi - not sure where you are located but a rehabilitation specialist (called a Physiatrist or physical medicine specialist here in Canada) maybe who you need to see.
I hope you can find someone to help.
I will try the edibles as well. I luckily live in a forward-minded state where Cannibis is legal for everything! I've never used the edibles.
But be sure you get a high dosage ointment, only 1000 mgs or more. the lower dosage is not worth the money.
@gently what are the easy fixes? I suffer from this condition and nothing prescribed has eliminated the pain except the diagnostic test done to find the cause. I believe lidocaine and perhaps cortisone was used for that test. The relief was total but short lived.
Tailbones can be adjusted in isolated movements by a chiropractor. A tailbone rotation caused by a hard fall will make sitting very painful and can affect the balance of the upper spine, experience tells me.
I am sorry to hear that you are suffering. Everyone is so different as to what works as you can see by the advice you have been given. I would simply say you are suffering too much to stay the course. Something needs to change in your approach no doubt. My third back surgery (fusion) was the trick for me, I now live with very little back pain. My advice is to make sure you don't let people talk you out of a plan if you and your doctor feel it is the right path at the time. Maybe it will be, maybe it won't, but if I had listened to all the fusion naysayers out there I would not be living virtually pain free as I am today. Pain is a horrible thing, especially the pain you are going through. If in your heart you feel the new plan you come up with is the right course, stay on it. I continually adjusted mine for over 20 years until I found the answer. Take care of yourself, I hope you get the answers you are looking for soon.
Thank you so much for your support. I just think, every day,….”It is 2024. No one should be living in this much pain.”
Good to know, thank you!
I will look into physiatry. Thank you!
