Nutrition recommendations for Stage 3b Colon Cancer?
Decembe 28 had a colon resection and a few days later diagnosed with Stage 3B colon cancer. As of today I'm about 15 lbs lighter and when I look in the mirror I see an emaciated man in his late 70's, yet I feel pretty good. When I left the hospital they gave me a couple of bottles on Ensure plus. It's not bad, but I'm wondering if there's something better out there I should be considering. I've been told i have an 80% chance of beating this via a Folfox regimen for 6 months. When I start to google about it I have to turn my computer off as it gets very scary. I beat head and neck cancer back in 2014 and feel confident I'll do the same this time. Just looking for a little reassurance, Thanks for any positive input you might offer.

@lorenzo303 You have a great attitude, and there’s no reason you won’t beat this one also.
I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer, and had a lower anterior resection in April.
I really like Ensure Max. It has 30 (!) grams of protein, only 1 gram of sugar, and 150 calories. You need protein to help your body heal and fight. You can get the calories in another source maybe without sacrificing high protein.
Hopefully there’s a dietician on here who can help you maneuver through this.
I also was on the FOLFOX regimen after my surgery. Watch out for neuropathy side effects (especially in your feet). I kinda wish I’d have stopped the Oxaliplatin earlier before that developed. It plagues me still.

The ensure completes have been helping us. 30 grams of protein and 350 calories per serving. When not available we move to the boost, 27 grams of protein and 270 calories. We were doubling up on ensures earlier this year to gain back some weight.l (up almost 40lbs and holding strong!). Hubby only drinks the chocolate ones 🙂

Great attitude my friend! I am stage 4 (just turned 52). I weigh 12 lbs more than I did 14 months ago (thank God). I consume small meals frequently. Learn to incorporate plain full fat Greek yogurt in your diet. It has protein and lots of goodies for our systems. I add in plain organic cheerios and fruit and mis it. It works wonders for me. I eat lots of eggs. Avocados are great too! Almonds and olives are terrific snacks. Keep in touch!
I was told no sugar and high protein. My son said pineapple 🍍 is an awesome food as well for fighting cancer cells. I googled it on chemo sites and it has positive studies. I don’t have weight loss issues… would totally trade that off with ya! I have stage 3c and they would not tell me of my chances. I have a very aggressive colon cancer and like you said, the internet is scary. Praying helps and my music to get out of that space of fear and negativity. I hope you have a big support system and God! You beat a couple biguns already! I have faith! Good luck and God bless! I did not make it past 2 rounds of the Oxaliplatin due to a breathing and awful neuralgia reaction. Next time would have possibly killed me. I do have hand and foot syndrome where you hands and feet burn and peel. I use special lotions and cold showers and cotton gloves at night are helpful to keep the moisture in. ❤️
Thanks so much for the suggestions. Love Greek yogurt.and also cheerios. I prefer cashews to almonds and read they have a lot of protein as well. Greek yoghurt worked really well for me too, but no sugary foods. A year later and my weight is back to normal. Recommend getting advice from dietician.

I think your positive manner of dealing,with this is great. - I am 84 this year , feel very good about my chemo therapy tx for Stage 3 surgery for removal of a large tumour and associated lymph nod involvement.. stay strong, friend!
DIET IS
CRITICAL! Exercise Daily. 30 minute brisk walking! Take your dog or walking alone works,wonders. Lots of water
during the day with electrolytes! Ask for .more help if you need encouragement here!
