I have similar pain that is transient and is an outcome from lung surgery 8 months ago. So it’s nerve pain. It is much better and really only comes and goes briefly now. Gabapentin helps but I’m Not fond of it.

Have you had surgery where they could have cut through nerve endings that innervate skin and muscles in the area?

Yes, I have thought the nerve pain was a possibility but the drs. are thinking more that it could be a bile duct blockage, though I did have my gall bladder removed several yrs ago. My alkaline phosphatase level was very high and this is one reason they are doing the endoscopic ultrasound. I, too, take Gabapentin 600mg 3 times a day, but for other chronic pain (neck and urinary bladder). Like you, I'd rather not be on it but it is somewhat helpful.
