I was diagnosed with AIH in 2005.
Went on Prednisone for maybe 6 months then Azathioprine 50 mg X2 since then. Never had an issue with meds. I am now 77 years old.
Liver transplant recipient as of 09/18/2023 here- diagnosed with autoimmune hep/PBC overlap 14 yrs ago. Was already stage 3/4 when diagnosed. Took Imuran (azthropine) for years. It had no ill side effect on me but the prednisone made my bones brittle, destroyed my digestive organs (had perforated ulcers from it). If you can avoid the prednisone please do, it wreaks havoc on your body and bones. Your doctor should be your primary source to voice your concerns regarding meds but if you feel your doctor isn’t listening then ask for a second opinion. You know your body better than anyone.
I wish you the best of luck!
