I am 8 weeks post anterior Right hip replacement. For the first several weeks, I had thigh pain that seemed to be nerve pain. That has gone away however I am now (past 2 weeks) waking up at night with a dull aching pain. I am going to PT twice a week. Every thing is going well with therapy and I have no problems walking. I also have good ROM. I have started taking a Tylenol PM and a regular Tylenol before bed. I talked to a number of people in addition to my doctor before the surgery. They all indicated it would be a relatively quick(4 week) recovery. My recovery was hindered by post surgery anemia. I was active prior to the surgery walking 3-5 miles several times a week and working out at the gym. I think I underestimated the toll surgery would take on my body.

I also had the post surgery anemia and yes it slows things down unfortunately. You have to recover from that as well as the surgery. Good luck!

Hi again,

I have been to PT and have had bouts of thigh pain. It has been seven weeks after surgery and I guess I just didn't expect this much pain after 7 weeks . I guess I was thought recovery would be smoother. I told the PT about the problems I was having and we worked out a less strenuous program. Thanks.

Hi, I am having the same problem as you...and I had my surgery at the same time. I'm 8 weeks out and having soreness, a deep aching pain in and around the hip joint. I didn't have it before, it started about 2 weeks ago. I thought I had an infection, but the incision looks fine. I talked to the PT about it and messaged my doctor's office. No one seems concerned but that doesn't help my frustration and my depression that comes with this new added pain. No one seems to know if I have an infection or not, which is annoying for me. If anyone has a suggestion for how to test this I'd appreciate knowing about it. I also thought it seemed worse after PT and that they were working me too hard, so I backed off the exercising a bit but the pain continues. I feel the same as you, I thought the recovery would be smoother....Good luck, I hope you get answers.

I'm 82 and having hip pain and meuropathy The hip pain made me scream and I fell down. I went to the emergency room and nothing was broken..Gabapentin helps me wiith both along with a Meloxican in the morning. If I keep hurting I take some ibuprofen. CBD helps too, especially with a little THC added. I have an appointment with a pain specialist this week. If you have to be referred by your GP for a specialist, do it right now as it seems to take forever to actually get an appointment. I'm a former RN.

walk4life,
My anterior right hip replacement was 7 months ago. It went well and I was happy with the recovery.
My right thigh has been completely numb since the surgery. It seems that some of the feeling might be returning just recently, but along with that comes some aches and pains.

My numbness was mostly gone by the 6 month post op date. I am now almost 13 months post op. I do have an indentation in the front of my thigh where my incision is. It is about 1 1/2 inches in the middle of the incision. Overall i am glad i did the surgery.

My anterior right hip replacement is now seven months out. I had a good recovery and went to PT for a few months after.
Recently, I have developed pain in my right thigh. For the most part, my thigh has been numb from hip to knee. I’m wondering if this new pain is the thigh waking up? If so, is the leg pain permanent?

Unfortunately, my experience is identical to yours. I am currently three years postop, and I still have thigh pain. And the pain is mostly controllable through the use of Tylenol, gabapentin, Cymbalta,. My doctors believe that I have nerve damage which will likely be with me forever. On a positive note, I still have a fairly active lifestyle, including swimming, walking and bike riding. I sincerely hope that your circumstances improve as mine has over the years.
