Skin is turning red 11 months after THR surgery.

I had THR surgery on my left leg 11 months agp. It has been a rough journey. It seems nothing has been right since surgery. The pain is getting worse. Today I noticed that my left leg around the scar is red and it is very painful. My hip surgeon told me everything is fine according to a recent MRI. My hip tells me otherwise. He just tells me to do pt. I did 13 sessions of pt a month after surgery. It was painful. He said the pain is probably coming from my back. But my hip has never stopped hurting. Should I see another hip surgeon for their opinion, or is this normal.

I had the same with my scar but it was infected with a residual suture. The PT people used a treatment that drew out the infection. It was like a bandage thing covered with another bandage. The scar line still breaks open and bleeds at times. I'd get a referral from my primary and see if she/he can find someone with knowledge of the anterior approach. The surgeon I used for the hip, which is fine, but the leg bothers me yet, always tells me the hip looks good but never addresses the suture infection or pain since my surgery in 2022. Good luck

@faykatsfour - It has been awhile since you first posted about your scar pain and redness. How are you doing? Has the redness and pain around your scar gone away, or has it got worse since you first posted about it? Redness around a scar can often mean a number of different things. Did you contact your surgeon about the new symptom? If you feel like you are not getting the answers you'd like, seeking a second opinion is something you could pursue.

Absolutely yes. You need a physician who will listen to you.

Oh my. You should def see another surgeon
You know your body and if it is red and sensitive to touch
common sense tells you that’s not normal.

The redness has calmed down. I saw my GP for these symptoms. I am still in so much pain. I guess my next step is seeking advice from another hip surgeon. I've been searching. I was referred to a pain management clinic by my back surgeon. My hip surgeon says the hip is doing fine. Says my pain is coming from my back. I've had two epidurals to ease the pain. Neither one helped. I am so discouraged as March 1 is the 1st anniversary of my hip surgery. I have got to do something. I have no quality of life at all. Still walking with a cane. Mornings are horrible. If anyone knows of a good hip surgeon, please let me know. I do have a bulging disc and some disc disease. I believe I have nerve damage, but no one is listening or helping.

Good hip surgeon: Where do you live? Are you willing to travel?
Mayo in Rochester has some fabulous hip surgeons.
This definitely sounds like it merits a trip somewhere.
