Cornea Confocal Microscopy (CCM) and Neuropathy

Posted by Rachel, Volunteer Mentor @rwinney, Jun 27, 2020

Cornea Confocal Microscopy is a newer way of diagnosing Small Fiber Neuropathy. It is an expensive microscope and as I understand, found primarily in large medical hospitals and universities. CCM is able to analyze the small fibers through your cornea (which contains the most fibers in your body) and not only determine a SFN diagnosis but also a more in depth assessment of disease progression or possible regeneration of nerves. It offers a bit more than skin punch biopsy. I've attached links for anyone interested in learning about CCM and whether it may benefit you. Please reach out and share if you have utilized this testing and what your experience has been. Thank you.
