MCC Support

The ostomy community has been affected by the outbreak of Covid-19. Many in-person support groups have had to cancel in-person meetings due to CDC guidelines. Attending ostomy group meetings often provides ostomates with educational opportunities and open discussion which helps with caring for their ostomies. Having a safe place for ostomates and their families to share and talk about feelings with others in a similar experience can be very positive after this life changing surgery. Being with others can reduce stress and anxiety related to living with an ostomy.

Covid-19 has the majority of us sheltering in place at home to minimize our exposure to others. We are excited to share another way to stay connected to your fellow ostomates. Mayo Clinic Connect has been offering a great platform to have online discussions through groups. We would also like to invite you to our upcoming virtual ostomy support group meeting via Zoom. If you would like more information, look under the “Events” tab.

What are some other ways you have found to connect with others who have an ostomy?

I try and work with WOC nurse at local hospital and make contact by phone with new ostomates. Secondly, we have our local ostomy meeting by zoom. In October we will have a 5 K walk, run for ostomy people.
