May 2, 2021 | Kanaaz Pereira, Connect Moderator | @kanaazpereira

Introducing a new vaccine to the public involves many steps – vaccine development, clinical trials, FDA approval, manufacturing and distributing. In a conversation with healthcare leaders and providers, Ellis Dean, Sr. Project Manager with BlackDoctor.org delves deep into the science behind the COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr. Chyke Doubeni, director of the Mayo Clinic Center for Health Equity & Community Engagement Research, who is also a participant in the vaccine trials, shares some valuable insights about encouraging patients to get the vaccine. "When I talk to my patients, I share with them what I've done – I share the process of how the vaccine was developed."

He goes on to explain, "I also share with them the things that we don't know...I like to be honest with my patients because they come to me for answers. The most important thing is that we acknowledge peoples' concerns and fears."

Ellis Dean also addresses questions such as long-term side effects, concerns about the ingredients, follow-up clinical trials, and other concerns regarding the COVID-19 vaccine
