Dr. James Meschia, neurologist, and Dr. Rabih Tawk, neurosurgeon, discuss and answer questions about Moyamoya disease.
Are there studies to backup that Graves Disease (when active) or Hyperthyroidism (when in a hyper state) can cause Moyamoya progression?

My son is 2 years old, he had a stroke a month ago.We found out he has Moyamoya Syndrome. He has had surgery on one side of his brain so far.He has tested positive for Lupus anticoagulant- and had to be retested to rule out a false positive.Would having lupus anticoagulant affect his next surgery?

Is there any definitive evidence that long-term outcomes of direct is better than indirect? It makes sense that a direct graft gets blood flow going faster, but are the post-op risks worth it?
In your experience how fast is the progression rate of Moyamoya? Is annual imaging suffice to follow the progression?

My husband was diagnosed with Moyamoya a few days ago. Is it a hereditary disease? We have a child together. Also is the recovery from the surgery fairly easy? What should we expect after surgery?
