According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the rates of new cancer cases has decreased in the United States, however, growing disparities or inconsistencies exist in cancer rates in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Many American Indian and Alaska Native people face unique challenges such as limited access to healthy foods combined with poverty. This webinar discussed strategies on eating healthy on a budget and how to read nutrition labels to identify healthier food options.

Objectives:

  • Understand challenges affecting some American Indian and Alaska Native communities to accessing healthy foods.
  • Identify two strategies to spend less at the grocery store.
  • Recognize three key areas on the nutrition facts label to identify healthier food options.
