Music is Good Medicine | Dr. H. Bryan Neel & Pastor Paul Walker

Thu, Dec 13, 2018
12:00pm to 1:00pm CT

Description

Dr. Bryan Neel is a retired Mayo Clinic surgeon, scientist and educator. Paul Walker is a retired ELCA Lutheran pastor. Both reside in Rochester, MN.

It is a rare and special privilege to play and hear music that has been adapted for two pianos (not to be confused with the same score on each piano). Two pianos in concert enhance the rich and powerful sonority of the instruments and provide listeners a unique experience.

Selections likely to be heard:

  • O Come All Ye Faithful
  • White Christmas
  • Parade of the Toy Soldiers
  • Jingle Bells
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas
  • Deck the Halls
  • Victor Herbert’s Toyland
  • The Holly and the Ivy
  • Chestnuts Roasting
  • Santa Claus is Coming to Town
  • We Wish You a Merry Christmas (sing-along)

Location
Gonda Building, Subway Level, Landow Atrium

Saw a documentary recently on the history of the Mayo Clinic. At some point in it's development, the healing aspects of art and music were incorporated into the institution. I am grateful for this.

I am also grateful. The soaring spaces in Gonda are so uplifting. What a healing atmosphere.

The MIGM concerts are live/in-person only.

Music therapy is used for years in India. I am pleased that a number of clinics are using it. It is not a medicine but something that relieves one from stress, unpleasant emotions and gives inner peace which is difficult otherwise,
