What kind of drug protocol is typically recommended for Giant Cell Myocarditis survivors (with their own heart) after one year? Is Prednisone and Prograf prescribed? What is expected for the next 5 years and beyond for this group? Do you have enough data to formulate meaningful statistics or predictions ?
Can you you have an normal ejection fraction and normal LV with myocarditis? Should the symptoms be treated without evidence on cardiac tests? In 2006 I developed symptoms of myocarditis after an upper respiratory infection and was evaluated in the E.R. EKG had non-specific ST changes. Labs were normal. Shortness of breath, chest pains, fatigue were very pronounced for several months. Cardiac workup in 2006 was negative and included 2D echocardiagram, L heart cath, stress echo, cardiopulmonary stress, , CT angiogram) Work-up at Mayo 2012 was negative and included cardiac MRI and stress echo. Work-up this summer included cardiac stress MRI, bicycle echo, and R heart cath with exercise. R heart cath ruled out pulmonary hypertension but tissue biopsy was not done. Since the event in 2006 I have been unable to build exercise tolerance or fly in an airplane without chest pressure and s.o.b. Ingestion of alcohol or having dental procedures bring on symptoms as well. Recent tests revealed exercise induced hypertension. BP's are normal when not exercising. Yearly Ejection fractions were greater than 55%. Recent echo last month EF was 51%. Pulmonary CT's and PFT's are normal. EKG is borderline since event and O2 sats are 93-94% (98-100 prior to event in 2006) hsCRP is consistently 3.5.
I have been blessed with steady recovery from GCM and have survived with my own heart. I also follow, and have followed, a very low carb diet for years. Have any studies been done on diet and recovery from myocarditis? I've also been able to manage my steriod induced diabetes with diet alone and not needed insulin or other diabetic medications.
What research is being done on what causes Myocarditis? Our two year old son passed away suddenly in 2016 after a stomach virus that led to Myocarditis. We have been told there is no genetic predisposition to this disease, but we are desperate to know what caused this and what we could have done to prevent it (and prevent with our other children). Is there any research being done to study the cases of children who have passed from this disease and if there is any known links found?
Our 16 month old daughter passed suddenly from myocarditis after a stomach virus. My question is are there documented cases of siblings of victims of myocarditis also getting myocarditis? Is a surviving sibling at any greater risk to contract myocarditis than a child that does not have a sibling that has died from myocarditis.
I am a male in my early 40s and have had myocarditis on four different occasions. Three times it occurred after a stomach virus. I’m an otherwise healthy individual and have tested negative for every disease they have tested me for. Is there any research on recurrences of myocarditis? Is there anything I can do to lessen the chances of @getting it again? Special diet?
My 54 year old daughter had the hives for about 4 days that she said were stress induced . The next day her husband found her dead in the bed. Autopsy showed acute myocarditis. The day before she died, her only physical complaint was the hives.
I had no idea that there was a connection between hives and myocarditis. Should I have known this? I have 2 more daughters. I, too want to know if they are at risk.
Can you tell me the difference in Myocarditis and Takotsubo? My husband had 2 grand mal seizures and about 10 days later they thought I had a heart attack. Did a heart cath since my traponine levels went up and they thought I had a blockage. Arteries were very clean so did cardiac MRI and said assume myocarditis. I felt great the first month after coming home from hospital but then started having pressure in my chest and arm pain. Some tingling in hands and feet as well. My doctor just added an ace inhibitor on my 2 month visit and seems to help some. I also want to know when I can get back to my exercise classes. One doctor said can go back and another said just a few minutes of walking. Thank you
Hello from the UK. Three years ago, I was diagnoised with “Acute miocarditis” probably due to viral infection. They never found the source and as a (then) 36 year old healthy person, showed no other aliments. It caused a heart attack with no damage and I have received no treatment since. What can I do to protect myself from it happening again? Why is this the only medical site I can find that discusses it?
