Description

Dr. Maisha Robinson shares information and answers questions on palliative care. In this video, you'll learn:

  • Palliative care does not always mean hospice care.
  • Palliative care can be useful for anyone who has a serious or advanced medical condition.
  • Palliative care can be provided alongside curative medical treatments.

Dr. Robinson is an Assistant Professor in Neurology and she holds a joint appointment in the Departments of Neurology and Family Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, where she established a neuropalliative care program and where she serves as the Medical Director of Palliative Medicine.

I am receiving palliative care for liver cancer. I received my first y90 treatment on Sept. 16, 2017. I am going for MRI on Oct. 13th. I also am curious to know if I am wasting what time I have left on Dr. visits. Radiation treatments, MRI's, blood work etc. They have given me no false hope from the beginning of my first diagnosis. The Radiation Dr. said one time. It could lead to curative treatment. Am I just being strung along for the sake of making money? I want to be treated as a human being. Not as a number who has insurance. Please be straight with me. Thanks

My husband was diagnosed with Liver cancer Feb 2016. He had the y90 in April that worked very well. The doctors put him on an immunotherapy that seemed to be working but in Jan 2017 another tumor had formed. Again, they did the y90 and put him on a different chemo - this did not work at all and the side effects were horrible. He was taken off the chemo in May. Currently we are not being treated and are watching our diet, taking supplements and praying earnestly. We are hopeful that my husband will qualify for a clinical trial.

Hi. I feel for you very much. I too have liver cancer. I was treated with Y90. It did not work. So they let me go. Just like that. I would like to advise you to look up Chris Beat Caner. He is a young guy who beat stage 3 colon cancer with diet and supplements. That is what I am currently doing to try and survive. Clean my life up. He is cancer free for 11 years now. Just by
cleaning up lifestyle, eating all nutritious foods. etc. It's very exciting to hear others on his blog that are living a great life now. Do yourself a favor and look it up. We can heal our own bodies. We just have to put in the research and do the work. All the best to you.

All the best to you as well. We followed the Chris Beat Cancer videos also and are trying to change our lifestyle. We have changed our eating habits and are taking supplements but have not been as devoted as Chris. Staying on mainly vegetables has been very hard especially RAW vegetables. Also, I have been slowly adding the supplements because he has been having such problems with his stomach that I do not want to cause more issues. We have three children and I am determined to do whatever it takes to try and heal him.

Hello Again. I am so glad you already know about Chris's website. Believe me, I don't think many people can follow his diet to a perfection. I have to tweek it some what. For example the raw vegs. I do blend them and drink them. But eating them I think can be hard for a compromised liver to digest. I am not a Dr. or know a whole lot about anything. I am just trying to discover what works best for me. I want all to look back 10 years from now and say, wow what a blessing to know we really can heal ourselves. Take Care, I wish you God Speed in your healing.

Thank You for sharing what you all are going through. We are all on a healing journey. I feel if we have folks who are on that journey with us and share information and encourage one another that our journey's may see a little less overwhelming. And yes I am open to anything you may have to share in the process. I will do the same. Good to meet you. Take Care.

@colleenyoung Thanks for the post, Colleen. Very informative. I had liver cancer prior to my transplant. It was a ablated successfully for the most part. The article was interesting for me though because it mentions symptoms. When I got my transplant it turned out that some of the cancer cells did not get ablated. They are watching me to make sure it does not metastasize so I found those signs interesting. Also, that liver cancer is less apt to cause cancer elsewhere than other cancers are to cause cancer in the live. That’s somewhat reassuring.
