How long do you anticipate before stem cell therapy is approved by the FDA for CHD treatment? Also, is the long term goal the ability to grow new hearts from "scaffolding" with the patient's stem cells and how long do you anticipate that becoming a reality?

Currently you are introducing stem cells during the Glen to improve heart function. Are there any other times, like through the Fontan, or a cath procedure where this may be possible? (My son is post Glen with low function.)

What if anything is being done post Fontan in terms of stem cell treatment?

REPLY

Are stem cells projected to be used just on newborns or are there other treatments for older children/young adults who have HLHS? I have heard of older children with HLHS who battle JRA, weakened immune systems, liver enlargement, and skin ailments (warts and molluscum). Do you have any research that could help clarify these other long term "side effects" of cardiac conditions?
