Description
An overview of treatment options for children with low grade gliomas is discussed. The webinar features Mayo Clinic Pediatric Neurosurgeon, David Daniels, M.D., and Mayo Clinic Pediatric Neurologist, Gesina Keating, M.D.. Both physicians discuss diagnosis and treatment options including: observation, surgery and chemotherapy. Follow-up care for children with low grade gliomas is also be discussed including: Pilocytic Astrocytomas, Gangliogliomas, DNETs and other low grade brain tumors. After the presentation Dr. Daniels and Dr. Keating answered questions.

What news are there concerning the prognosis for tectal gliomas after the onset of puberty? When a biopsy cannot be done - how sure can one be that it is a grade I tumor?
My 17 year old son had a benign ganglioglioma removed on 10-20-14. The entire tumor was removed and he's made good progress. Clear MRI's since. He's been back to school, job and baseball for many months. However, he has been dealing with migraines (he did not experience headaches of any kind before. He did have simple partial seizures). Some migraines are 20 days straight. In addition to being on 3 anti seizure/migraine meds, Doctors introduced 2 different steroids during each of these episodes. The first broke the migraine but he still had 10 headaches per day. The second migraine he was prescribed a new steroid, this resulted in no change.
Just wondering if this is common? If so, is it tricky to figure out the correct medication combination that works? Any other options I should look into?
I have a ten year old with IDH1 mutation, what is the significance with this mutatation in pediatrics? She has 2 low grade diffuse astrocytomas.
