COVID-19 vaccinations happening in phases
Front-line health care workers across the country are receiving the first COVID-19 vaccinations. With the recent approval of a second COVID-19 vaccine for use here in the U.S., more COVID-19 vaccine doses are expected to be available this week.
A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention panel has recommended allocating COVID-19 vaccines for the next phase. Phase 1b includes those who are 75 and older as well as front-line essential workers, including police, firefighters, teachers and grocery store workers. These vaccinations would begin when phase 1a, health care workers and long term care residents, is completed.
On the Mayo Clinic Q&A podcast, Dr. Gregory Poland, an infectious diseases expert and head of Mayo Clinic's Vaccine Research Group, gives an update on vaccine approvals and the rollout phases.
To practice safe social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, this interview was conducted using video conferencing. The sound and video quality are representative of the technology used. For the safety of its patients, staff and visitors, Mayo Clinic has strict masking policies in place. Anyone shown without a mask was recorded prior to COVID-19 or recorded in an area not designated for patient care, where social distancing and other safety protocols were followed.

Hi,
I live in Pasco County. DeSantis said the Pfizer vaccine is split between Miami-Dade and Pinellas counties and that CVS and Walgreens have 60,000 doses.
This is telling me all the other counties don’t have the vaccines yet. But I don’t know if that is true. I know Florida has a lot of elderly residents but this confusion is probably only the tip of the iceberg. I will adopt a wait and see attitude. I was expecting my daughter who is a nurse practitioner and in the assisted living facilities here in Pasco to be one of the first group. If she finds out anything more that can be verified , I will certainly pass it on to interested Florida residents. I am personally not in a rush but others may be .

The Florida governor announced yesterday that he will not follow CDC guidelines, but that all individuals over 70 will be in the next phase. Can anyone address what that means for Floridians over 70? Where do we go to get the shot? Medicare notified us yesterday there will be no costs. Will we be notified by Medicare to go get the shots? Will our PCP's give the shots? So much chaos in Florida because of politics.

– I don't live in Florida. However, I think that everyone is confused about age, where, when, how and we know the why. I have yet to receive any notice from anyone about these excellent questions. I'm in Jacksonville. I understand Mayo Jax is giving vaccine to their health workers. I'm available when they call and offer me my vaccine! I've sent a message to my PCP on his portal to see what he says about his patients. I hope to get the shot from Mayo, tho. Hope one of you will get info soon and share. I'm so please Gov. DeSantis is taking good care of our older population. He's kept this state open and running…..yep, we've had our covid for sure, but our nursing home and retirment communities have done pretty well, especially compared to some other areas. I'm hoping to get that vaccine before my birthday, Feb 6! Blessings to you all. Elizabeth

@jal333, Our TX gov. proclaimed the same as yours…ahead of the fronline workers. You pose good questions and I, too am waiting for more state information.
