Son of Football’s Greg Olsen Undergoes Heart Surgery for HLHS

By Suzanne R. Ferguson, @suzannerferguson

As the NFL football season kicks off tonight, our thoughts are with the Carolina Panthers' Greg Olsen and his son, TJ, who was born with HLHS and reportedly underwent his third heart surgery earlier this week at Levine Children’s Hospital. The surgery, known as the Fontan procedure, allows the blood coming from the body to go directly to the lungs, normalize the oxygen levels, and reduce the right ventricle workload to the approximate levels of a normal heart.  “He's responded well to all three surgeries, we've had a few little hiccups but for the most part he's on the right track," Greg Olsen tells South Carolina's Time Warner Cable News.   For the full story and video, please visit
