Expert Insight

"Getting regular check-ups and undergoing screening tests are not enough as you grow older. To truly prevent some diseases or to minimize their progression, your best bet is to follow healthy lifestyle habits. Deepening your knowledge about the biology of healthy aging gives you more control. Understanding what drives your health gives you the power to be a better advocate for yourself and influence how you age." - Donald D. Hensrud, M.D., M.P.H., associate professor of preventive medicine and nutrition and director of the Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Program, Rochester, Minnesota.

Take Action Now

  • Get preventive screening tests. Check with your health care provider to determine what tests you should have.
  • Seek Resources. Make an appointment with a fitness professional at Charter House or the Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center to identify how to enhance your physical preventive care plan.
  • Update your driving skills. Take a refresher course for older drivers. Look for courses through a community education program or local organizations.
