Mayo Clinic was recently ranked the No. 1 hospital by U.S. News and World Report for 2014-2015. Healthcare specialties were ranked and categorized into sixteen groups. Mayo Clinic achieved more number one specialty rankings than any other health care provider in the United States. As a result of the unparalleled dedication to quality and safety, Mayo Clinic earned a score of 5 out of 5 in the category of patient safety. The ranking is consistent with our primary value of the needs of our patients come first.

Keeping this core mission foremost in mind, our Mayo Clinic Children’s Center uses an integrated care approach to treat patients with congenital heart defects. Through its affiliation with our adult care programs, our pediatric hospital provides the latest technology to ensure the whole spectrum of care from birth to adulthood. Surgeons collaborate with a team of specialists to provide individualized care and treatment in order to delay and even prevent transplants. Here at the Todd and Karen Wanek Family Program for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, our goal is to unlock the potential of emerging technologies - from clinical imaging to molecular genetics to regenerative applications - and transform them into practice.

The Todd and Karen Wanek Family Program for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) is a collaborative network of specialists bonded by the vision of delaying or preventing heart failure for individuals affected by congenital heart defects including HLHS. The specialized team is addressing the various aspects of these defects by using research and clinical strategies ranging from basic science, to diagnostic imaging to regenerative therapies.
