I have been very lucky in that I am able to control the disease and symptoms with supplements recommended by Dr. Kresser and the Paleo auto immune protocol diet. I cheat but get more strict when symptoms reappear

Hi @kimh have you tried diets. I basically couldn't walk until I started the Paleo Autoimnune protocol diet, with supplements suggested by Chris Kresser. I found that being on a very strict diet for 6 weeks allowed me to introduce foods later on. Whenever I feel like I am getting symptoms I stop cheating. I have been able to manage this with probiotics, supplements, and prebiotics. In a nut shell, I take VSL #3 for a priobiotic (2 times a day), Now enzymes (after each meal when symptomatic and twice a day when not), GI-Revive (after meals when symptomatic and twice a day when not), grapefruit seed extract, ginger extract, and feverfew for pain. With my diet and these supplements I have been in remission for 5 years with a few small relapses. I also don't take any medicine for gerd anymore after 11 years of antiacids and other meds. I am not a doctor, but wanted to share what worked for me. I follow functional medicine doctors, Dr Hyman and Dr. Kresser. Good luck.

HI there,

I don't know if my reply was sent because I wasn't logged in, but here it is again just in case:

Hi there,

I had acid refux for years and then got the auto immune version of the MP. I suffered tremendously until I started the Paleo Auto immune protocol diet and then started taking supplements for auto immune as recommended by Chris Kresser (http://my.chriskresser.com/the-supplement-guide/). The probiotic recommended is no longer available, but Dr. Mark Hyman from the cleveland clinic has some recommendations. Initially, I added ginger root extract, and grapefruit seed extract. I am a western medicine kind of guy, but didn't want to take all the steroids that my doctors recommended. Not only did my pain associated with Pannicultis go away, I also no longer had acid reflux after about 7 years or so. I now cheat regularly until I have signs that I need to go back on the diet, but I was diligent for 6 weeks, and then slowly added foods to see what affects me. I also had high triglycerides, and elevated liver enzymes and inflammation markers. All of these issues resolved themselves with the diet. Good luck and stay positive.

take care, Doron

Hi @kimh,

If you are in a lot of pain, I recommend you try the autoimmune protocol of the Paleo diet.  Others have tried FODMAP, but the autoimmune protocol has done the trick for me.  I also had immense success with supplements for autoimmune conditions as recommended by Chris Kresser (http://my.chriskresser.com/the-supplement-guide/). I used to have the same sleeping pain.  Although my MRI still shows that I have the disease, I can say my bloating is gone and so is my pain. I don't take meds, but just go strict with my diet and my supplements. I realize not all folks have the autoimmune version, but these supplements are great for gerd and general gut health.

Hope this helps.

take care,

Hi there, for those that know me, I stress the fact that I have had gerd for 11 years (and still MP), but I cured my gerd with supplements and diet. Just look up Chris Kresser and see his suggestions for supplements and diet. I can now drink coffee, eat acidic food, and not get gerd. Pretty crazy given I was taking proton pump inhibitors for years and 600 mg of Zantac daily. Diet (autoimmune protocol) really helps me with bloat. Good luck.

I started with the Auto immune protocol and added food back. My biggest issues are gluten, sugar, dairy, corn, tomatoes, nuts, alcohol (especially beer) in excess. Everyone is different, so auto immune protocol is a good start. You only need to be very strict for about 6 weeks before you start adding food back in. I would also look at taking supplements, especially probiotics. I like the supplements recommended by Chris Kresser. Good luck!

I believe in diet for autoimmune and second the fact that everyone is different. The Paleo Auto immune protocol was the diet for me, but it never got rid of Gerd until I started taking supplements to heal my gut. I can drink coffee, alcohol (which I am not recommending), and eat acidic food and not get acid reflux since being on the diet, introducing foods that don’t bother me, and taking the supplements as recommended by Kris Kresser (here is the link: http://my.chriskresser.com/the-supplement-guide/). As said previously, I am just sharing what worked magically for me. No PPI’s, no Zantac, just healthy eating (with some cheating) and supplements.

@danybegood1 I did the research on my own, when my Dr. was out sick. He thought it was a good idea and the effects have been amazing.
