I TOO AM NEW AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THIS ON-LINE STUFF. I HAVE HAD NO LUCK GETTING MY HUSBAND DIAGNOSED. HOWEVER, I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT MYSELF BY READING TWO VALUABLE BOOKS. (1) THE 36-HOUR DAY WHICH IS A CAREGIVERS BIBLE AND (2)PASSAGES IN CAREGIVING BY GAIL
SHEEHY.I ALSO BROUGHT UP VASCULER DEMENTIA ON MAYO’S WEB SITE AND
THERE, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME A LIST OF SYMPTOMS OF WHICH HE HAS ALL OF THEM!! I ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH AS MOST DOCTORS DON’T WANT TO DEAL WITH THIS STUFF. GOOD LUCK…YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS AS THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT JOURNEY!!!!!!!!!!!! NANCY

Dear Ron…………I can sure sympathize with you!! I have been trying to get a diagnosis for several years for my husband without any success. It is horribly frustrating and discouraging. I absolutely can state #1 your wife MUST get on antidepressants immediately. Depression acts out in so many ways, it often is hard to separate it from other illnesses. I absolutely believe in “neuro-psych testing” It gives you a good baseline of memory, cognitive etc issues. hard to fool a neuro psych person! I also encourage you to absolutely find a compassionate therapist FOR YOU. I don’t think I could have made it this far if it hadn’t been for my therapist. She is an ADVOCATE FOR ME, and tries to look out for my best interests while being a caregiver. good luck.Nancy
A “PS”…………….I have had NO luck with Neurogists. My husband, a family physician, and me an ex nurse, can judge medical things quite well. His neurologist of 5 year, told me several weeks ago when I pushed him about a diagnosis of what kind of dementia he had……………………said “if he’d just wear his c-pap every night, he wouldn’t have memory issues.” Thru my own research, I KNOW it is Vascular Dementia.
