Mar 26, 2017 · Shoulder pain 5 years after replacement in Joint Replacements

It actually is feeling better today. I work retail in a home store where some of the merchandise is rather heavy. I probably just over did it. I am using orencia right now and also sulfasalazine and plaquenil. I take 5 mgs of prednisone and Celebrex. I don’t like taking so many drugs but what do you do. My rheumatologist said I could try xeljanz but decided to stay the course I’m on until I see her again. My RA is the problem. My elbows are pretty bad too. I couldn’t do as much therapy as I should have because my elbows were getting worse. So that’s where I’m at.
Thanks for responding.

I had my left shoulder replaced June 2012 and I am having some of the same pain I had before the surgery. I have RA and my elbows are bad as well. Does anyone else out there have pain after the surgery?

I am taking Sulindac. I’ve used it for probably 15 years or so. I’ve also taken Methotrexate for that long. That is a disease modifying drug and doesn’t really help with the inflammation. I’m looking to find a new Rheumatologist at Mayo. I started a discussion on this site to see if anyone had any referrals. My Dr. left the clinic I went to before so am in need of a new one. Good talking to you. This a great site.

Wow! You are really doing a lot. I guess each Dr. is different. I have basically no pain and don’t take any meds other than what I take for my arthritis. I had to be off the anti-inflammatory one for 2 weeks before and 4 weeks after the surgery. So my knee swelled up really bad. It is still difficult to walk a long distance. I started the meds a week ago and it is getting better, slowly! Since you said you don’t have any external stitches did you have a total replacement or the arthroscopic type surgery? They replaced the entire ball and socket on mine. Seems like everyone’s situation is a little different. Glad things are working out well for you.

I haven’t done any PT. My Dr. wants it to be still the first 6 weeks other than taking the sling off about 3 times a day to raise and lower my arm from the elbow down. I sleep pretty well in a recliner. What kind of PT do you do?

Jul 10, 2012 · Looking for a Rheumatologist in Bones, Joints & Muscles

I am looking to find a new Rheumatologist at Mayo in Rochester, MN Does anyone out there have any preferences? I just went through total shoulder replacement 4 weeks ago and am still recuperating from that. I have RA along with Raynauds and Sjogrens.I have taken Methotrexate and Sulindac for at least 15 years or more. I’ve done pretty well with them. Since getting my shoulder done I would like to do more of my health care there. It’s about a 5 hour drive to get there but I think it is worth it.

How are you doing? I have a week and a half left with the sling on and then I have to start using my arm. Kind of nervous!

I hope all goes well for you as well! Typing with one hand is kind of tricky sometimes! My surgery was done in Minnesota!
