Jan 16, 2012 · Fibromyalgia in Bones, Joints & Muscles

I had a complete hysterectomy in June of 1994. By fall I was very achey & it continued to get worse. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I have delt with it for a long time now. What helped me most: 1) Relefan (a pain med like motrin but easy on the stomach), Cymbalta, Ultram for when the pain got really bad warm water exercises, a hot tub (you can get a perscription & claim it on your income tax as a medical expense) or jacuzzi tub or walk in tub with jets. Make sure it has a heater to keep the water warm!, regular massage therapy, chiropractic treatments, and a good comfortable matress like the Sleep Number beds (you can adjust the firmness depending on how you feel).

The National Fibromyalgia Association and Fibromyalgia Network are 2 great sites to go to for forums, chatting and info. There are also groups on facebook.

Hope that helps 🙂

Jan 16, 2012 · Feeling like something is stuck in your throat. in About Kids & Teens

I have had difficulty swallowing & everyone told me it was anxiety. I lost 110 pounds. Has anyone mentioned EOSINOPHELIC ESOPHAGITIS? It happens in children. They have a food allergy/intolerance. Instead of having anyphalaxis, the esophagus swells up & it is hard to swallow. This can also put pressure on the airway, making it difficult to breathe. It is not a common disorder. The docs at Mayo would know right away what it is. I suggest getting a referral to Mayo to a gastroenterologist. It could also be esophageal spasms where the esophagus isn’t squeezing correctly. This problem makes it impossible to drink a glass of ice water like a normal person would. A normal person could drink it right down. A person with spasms wouldn’t be able to. You need someone that sees difficult GI cases in CHILDREN. Don’t listen to that all in your head garbage. It’s a cop out. You know your kid better than anyone. Trust your mother’s instinct!

Jan 15, 2012 · Bariatric Surgery in Digestive Health

No, I haven’t had surgery. I have tried weight watchers, dieticians. It’s hard because I have food allergies. No one seems to really know what to do. I have gone to physical therapy for over a year trying to exercise. I don’t know what to do.

Jan 12, 2012 · Progress Autonomic Neuropathy in Neuropathy

That’s good to know. I developed neuropathy out of the blue three years ago. No one knows why. I’m in Rochester NY. They have a great neuropathy doc there & he’s sending me to Mayo.

I need to lose the 120 pounds I have gained as a result of meds (steroids) and being in a wheelchair. I am desperate. I do not eat much & have been following a diet plan. I also do pool exercise. My numbers won’t budge. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to lose weight. Is surgery the only answer? And I have food allergies to wheat, dairy, and soy. How would that affect it? This weight is killing me. It is making my other health probs worse. Help!

Jan 12, 2012 · Need a diagnosis - don't know where to go in Visiting Mayo Clinic

I have been sick & undiagnosed for 9 years. I even went to The Cleveland Clinic because it was closer. You want to go to Mayo in Rochester, Min. That’s where I’m headed. The other sites are satellites. The Mayo in Min. has everything. You might be able to follow up in Jacksonville. But if it is that important, you want the biggest & best. That’s the one in Min. Good luck & May God be with you in your journey!

I have been struggling for 9 years without a diagnosis. After much research, a lot of thought, and a lot of advice I am on my way to Mayo. Maybe your doctor should refer you. If they won’t, you can ask for an appointment yourself. Don’t wait 9 years. I lost a big part of my life.

Dec 21, 2011 · The Undiagnosed in Just Want to Talk

9 years ago I started having trouble swallowing. I lost 100 pounds because I couldn’t eat. I developed Food allergies to wheat, dairy, soy. My genetic test for celiac is neg. 3 years ago I developed severe neuropathy & am numb from the waist down. My hands & face are numb. I have a high MMA, but had many B12 shots and that did not affect the MMA. My sed rate is high. There are some strange things with my spinal tap, I can’t remember what exactly. Oh, I also was diagnosed with Fibro several years ago. Recently, I have developed RAD and severe sleep apnea. I have had SVT and am on meds for a high heart rate.

I went to The Cleveland Clinic & got no help. I was very disappointed. Before making the trip from NY to Minn., and going through more tests, I wanted to be sure I didn’t end up like I did from Cleveland. With no help.
