Fri, Jul 26 8:15am · Chronic pain and spinal fusion in Spine Health

Being home is sure nice but there are always challenges to overcome. I’ve set my goal to walk 15 minutes a day, with help from hubby and walker. I also have a list of exercises to do to build strength in my legs and back. I can do those with not too much pain. But the core exercises for around my middle are at the moment unbearable . My one advice is to take it easy and don’t get depressed when you have to step back. It’s all part of healing. And each day do Something that helps in healing process.

Oh my goodness thank you so much for your input. I had the fusion done on L3-4 and 4-5. I have degenerated discs and spinal stenosis. Been in rehab 10 days now and going home tomorrow. Have to say the pain is excruciating at times. The pain meds help. I’m walking with a cane, inside, and a walker outside. Like you, my best advice is to take it slow. Listen to your doc and remember no BLT: bending lifting twisting. As I shared before, I’m diabetic and my bs #’s have gone through the roof, and bp dips. So I get tired real easy. As much pain as this has caused I’d do it again simply because the only other option was losing my ability to walk. Thanks again

Well my a1c has been under 7, so guess I may not qualify to see an endocrinologist. Heavens, after all this I dare to even wonder what it will be. Sounds like you are being proactive. It sure helps having this group continuing down this path together.

Thank you so much. I’m being released from Rehab tomorrow and will see my spine surgeon then. As it were, I’m w/0 a Pcp at the moment. Mine transferred in the midst of all of this. Wouldn’t you know it. So I guess I’ll talk to my surgeon and see if I can’t get referred to someone or if all else fails go to urgent care. I’ve never seen an endocrinologist but I’m thinking that may be the way to go. Thank for the suggestion. I’m wondering if they also help you with planning meals and such. I realize it’s going to be a long journey back from surgery, and being diabetic doesn’t help, but one day at a time. Thank you again

Thank you for your insight. I’m hoping once I get home, I’ll be better equipped to get it under control. Docs don’t seem that concerned but when it’s your body, you new to be proactive. Good luck with the exercise. I’m walking with a cane or walker, but every bit helps. Good luck

I am so grateful I have found this site. I was diagnosed with type 2 about 30 years ago. I am on metformin and 10 units of insulin twice daily. My a1c’s have been very well controlled. I do exercise and eat a pretty decent diet. Well, the 10th of this month I had to have surgery caused from spinal stenosis on my back. Fusion at L3-4 and L4-5. I’ve been in a lot of pain, and now as a result my bs has gone through the roof…300+ I have neuropathy in my legs hands and feet. Using CBD/THC balm at night helps a lot. I guess I just need encouragement to get through this next hurdle. Of course very little exercise for awhile is out, and not being able to really plan best choice meals does tend to depress me. But I would encourage all of us to take one day at a time. I so appreciate being a part of this group

Hi yes I have been using CBD/THC balm at night for my hands and feet. The brand is called Dragon Fire, here in Washington state. It is 175mg of CBD and 175mg of THC. A friend gave it to me to try on my spinal stenosis. That didn’t relieve the pain, but has been great for the numbing and burning from neuropathy. Hope this helps

Thank you so much. I’m hoping you continue to find some relief. I think I will order the compression gloves. Also I want to tell you a friend gave me a jar of CBD/THC for the pain in my back caused by spinal stenosis. Will it didn’t help, but after reading several posts here, decided to try it on my hands and feet.WOW what a difference! I had tried one thing after another…meds, lidocaine cream, hot/cold packs. You name it. And my Pcp seemed at a loss. I had terrible burning and numbness in feet, and twitching that drove me crazy. Of course it was worse at night, and I had many sleepless nights. Then, my hands started in with the same symptoms and I was really flustered. So tried the CBD/THC balm at night before bed, and what a difference! The one I use is 175mg of CBD and 175mg of THC. I hope this helps you. As we all continue to share and find relief, may you have sunny days and happy thoughts.
