Dec 22, 2019 · Stage 3/4 Kidney disease: I need support before my appointment in Kidney & Bladder

Welcome @mignon! I have nothing to add to the information all of these wonderful people have offered.
I was diagnosed in August of 2016 and quickly progressed from Stage 2 to Stage 3, now 3b. Mayo Clinic Rochester has been my Friday ritual since moving back to Minnesota in 2018. Everyone there has been so supportive and caring. I learned the more information I can provide them, the easier it is for them to rule things out! You will be glad to be there.

Dec 22, 2019 · Scared for my mom ); in Cancer

Goodmorning @brookealm2. My adult daughters rarely can accompany me to my appointments (one in Chicago and one in St. Paul with two young children, demanding job, and a an EMT-Firefighter husband.) At first, I did not want to burden them with information. Over time, I realized keeping them in the loop, even when there isn't a clear answer, helps all of us. They know what I know about the disease and treatment options.

I asked my doctor if I could record an appointment to review later on with my daughters. She was fine with that. Maybe your mom's doctor would be okay if you attended a session by phone? I think it was Becky who said knowledge is power.
Do what you need to do to take care of yourself for both your sakes. Get support, find information and maintain a curious, hopeful attitude!
Sending healing thoughts. Susan

I don't know Teresa. I have been always been healthy so my response to the diagnosis three years ago was anger. Although I have worked on acceptance, I still have an "attitude ". And I have always been fiercely independent. I have been studying Reiki and Healing Touch to try to learn acceptance and being gentle with myself and allowing myself to be more vulnerable. The disease has made me rethink life in general and my life in particular.

Hi Teresa,
I do not have cancer, although I have had every test imaginable to rule it out. ButnI do have a rare kidney disease that is treated with chemo. I am on my third different treatment because the first two did not work. And i agree with your description of this being an emotional roller coaster ride. It may not be the best way to manage this but I am still working full time. I love my work. I feel useful and productive. I have been terrible about keeping up with my meditation practice, but that is so helpful, too. I had hoped to find a support group for people going through chemo but no luck. So I was happy to see your post.

Dec 7, 2019 · Afraid I have cancer in Cancer

Dear a2dc2dc
Of course you are scared! The symptoms you describe are interfering with your life and piece of mind and you don't have any answers. From my own experience I know that worry and fear can be isolating. It takes over our ability to center and ground ourselves in the other important parts of our lives. I wanted to acknowledge your emotional experience. That acknowledgement for me was difficult to find. I truly believe in the mind-body-spirit connection. Meditatation and studying Healing Touch and Reiki are helping me realize what is important. I hope you find answers soon and in the meantime, find someone/someways to care for your emotional health that work for you.

Hello Teresa, I immersed myself into the field of Energy Medicine such as Reiki, Healing Touch and Energy Medicine, itself. I have had the opportunity to work with some great teachers in the Twin Cities Area. The practice was another way for me to find the way out of negative thinking. Because of my current medical diagnosis, I have had to change my work schedule to 4 ten hour days to allow a day for treatments. This has greatly reduced the amount of free time I have to practice all of the above but even spending five minutes a day in centering and grounding helps so much. I am a psychotherapist and all the cognitive behavioral techniques were temporary until I incorporated the energy work. Thank you for sharing your journey!
