Sun, Sep 8 8:29am · Non arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy in Eye Conditions

Hi, @greyhound3, I lost most of my vision in right eye overnight in 2011. I lost my peripheral vision and all except upper right. Most of the time I forgot about the loss of vision in that eye except after almost two accidents I looked to my right several times at a stop sign. This past winter I lost vision in my left eye gradually and thought my lack of eyesight was due to cataracts which I do have. I don’t have any peripheral vision and can’t see under my nose . Please keep in touch as this condition seems to be extremely rare.

You asked how I was doing in July but have not looked at connect. I am legally blind with 10% of my vision. This is my new world and I have adapted to it. I am surprised how rare this condition is. My eye doctor said in 30 years of practice he has only seen this happen 3 times

@weezy1939 I have NAION in both eyes so have only 10% of my vision. I have accumulated to my lack of vision over the last few months. I have learned nothing is to be left where I can fall over it and all cabinet doors must be closed. I have finally learned to slow down. I can see the best outdoors so am loving the long days. Crowds are the hardest so I have to remind my partner to slow down as he holds my hand and steers me in the right direction.

@angelagrace1217 I lost almost all my vision in right eye in 2011. I found out there are many people living with one eye and after adjusting to it I totally forgot about it except when I got to a stop sign. That was after I almost had several accidents because I forgot I couldn't see out of right eye. I would always remember to look to the right several times before pulling out. This past winter I was told I needed cataract surgery but between appointments realized my sight was getting worse and then was diagnosed with non arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy in my left eye. I am a person who can get into total denial about happenings. My eye condition has stabilized. I have no peripheral vision and can't see a thing under my nose but I can see my hands so I knit, play duplicate bridge and marathon bridge, walk the neighborhood and I just started gardening. I am thankful for every little bit of sight I have.

There are so many different eye problems but I haven't seen one recently about non arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy, which I have in both eyes. Does anyone know someone with this? I don't have peripheral vision nor can I see anything under my nose.
