Thanks, I've heard about this type of therapy. I contact a PT in my area from your link.. I sat at a job most of my life and have shortening of the gluteus medius muscle and arthritis in my facet and SI joints and one bulging disc. I'm 59 years old and walking/standing was extremely painful. Stretching/self compression and massage has helped a great deal. I am off pain meds now and the pain is not as extreme as it was 6 months ago. I Also go to the gym mostly for swimming. I used the Hydro Therapy bed at Planet Fitness. I'm on SSDI so I'm eligible for free gym membership through the Silver Sneakers Program so I have a free membership at the YMCA to swim. I'm going to a free 20 minute appointment. I'll write again in future

I found your post interesting regarding trigger point injections.

My pain MGMT doctor doesn't support them. How long did they last for you? What exactly were you injected with? I may try them…..

How often do you stretch your affected muscles? My chiropractor said 3 times a week, but I do more for relief..

I can only tell you my journey ..

In regards to your similar issue to mine except my knots, trigger points are in my glute medius.

I quit physical therapy and joined Planet Fitness and LAFitness gyms thru the silver sneaker program through United healthcare..YMCA is also free through the program.

I mildly stretch in the morning at home because I'm stiff in the morning…..then off to The hydro therapy massage chairs at planet fitness.. it feels so good and it helps with the pain . Then I stretch again using the Precor machine and other ways..

I do strength exersizes for my core and back at the gym.. I use DVDs youtube to educate myself on stretching.

I use a foam ball to compress the knots (adhesions, trigger points) that hurts at first but it breaks up the tension and it won't hurt as much over time..some use a tennis ball..

Don't just focus on stretching your upper back…do your whole body..I can't stress enough how much stretching has helped me.
I do light muscle exercises right now, not too much, because like you, it hurts…
I began to swim at LA fitness this week.
The jacuzzi and sauna feels good too.

I don't know how old you are. But do join a gym if your not going, they are so worth it. Make sure you eat healthy .
I have done these things for only 2 half months and I feel 75% better.

I've taken the liberty to do my own physical therapy since I know my body better than anyone. I've been stretching every muscle I can everyday by watching DVDs I rented from the library for people over 50. I also watch a variety of videos on YouTube. One thing i recently learned by watching two chiropractors video is to do compressions on the trigger points aka as knots aka as adhesions on the painful gluteal or hip flexor muscles. Using a small ball..tennis ball or hard foam for example. I lie down and place the ball under my glut and apply pressure.. at first it hurt a lot.im doing it at least once a day. Not sure if helping due to the fact ive been doing strength exersizes as well, pilates …im.going to my first chiropractor visit today to discuss all this. I'll be back

I have this problem as well. my glutel muscles tighten as I walk. I have to stretch them along the way. No PT has helped. I've gotten 4 tenomomies, gone to three physical therapists, tens, ultrasound, dry needle therapy. Pain shots medial raido frequency nerve emblazons.. nothing helped. Now I joined a gym to hope help. The hydro massage therapy chair helps relieve the pain but so far only temporary.
