Fri, May 22 9:37am · Trying to recover from a c. diff infection (Clostridium difficile) in Digestive Health

@mala1921 I too took clindamycin for a tooth infection back in August, 2018. Three weeks later I ended up in the hospital for 8 days. Agony! They gave me vancomycin but I relapsed 4 times over the next 7 months. Lost 14 pounds and weighed 86 pounds. Finally, I had an fmt (fecal microbiome transplant) in March, 2019. Since then, I have been doing ok. However, I still can't gain any weight back! I live in terror of it coming back or if I get sick and need any antibiotics. A lot of antibiotics can start it back up. I take probiotics every day, specifically, Visbiome and saccharomyces boulardii. If you have any questions, let me know. Good luck to you! Hope you feel better soon.

I, too, was diagnosed with cdiff back in September, 2018 after taking clindamycin for a tooth abscess. Have had 3 flare-ups since. Have taken flagyl, vancomycin twice and just finished tapering vancomycin for 6 weeks. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop any day now. And scared to death! Am 71 years young and feel a lot older. Started out at 100 lbs and now weigh 88. I take vsl#3 every day. Just saw my gastro doctor this week. Have an appointment in 2months unless I get sick again before that time. Fmt was mentioned to me as the next step. I feel for everyone who is dealing with this terrible disease. I, like others, had never even heard of cdiff before. I wonder why that is? Anyway, I have read everything I can find on this subject. I look forward to chatting with all of you!

@judik I had an fmt almost a year ago, and my gastroenterologist at the time told me I no longer needed to take probiotics. When I mentioned this to my primary doctor, she looked at me like why wouldn't you? So, I have continued to take florastor and visbiome, (formerly vsl#3. I don't see the harm in continuing them.

@dpete19743 I also had cdiff from September, 2018 thru March, 2019 in which I relapsed 4 times and took vancomycin each time. Then I got the fmt. I have been ok since that time. I am 72 years old but I did not notice any difference with regard to my memory or any confusion before or after cdiff.

@annapocono I had the fmt in March of this year after having 4 relapses and hundreds of vancomycin that did nothing. I have not heard of anything negative about fmt and am glad I didn't hear this before I had it! I have been doing ok just scared of getting sick and needing an antibiotic! How did you hear about 2 people dying? And from what???

So, does anyone have an idea of what medication you will take if you need an antibiotic for an infection? The thought of getting sick this winter terrorizes me! I have been okay since my fmt back in March, but that was after 6 months of relapsing over and over again. The anxiety of getting cdiff again makes me lose my breath.

@annapocono If you don't mind me asking, what are the 3 risk factors of cdiff?
