Tue, Feb 4 10:03am · Gastroparesis in Digestive Health

Hi @gharm, I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis about a year ago. The test that confirmed this was a gastric emptying test. My symptoms were major weight loss at first (from a size 12 to a 2) in about 2 1/2 months. I also could not eat many foods without experiencing some adverse reaction such as constipation, nausea, dizziness, etc. I lived in about 3 foods for over a year of which were bone broth, organic turkey and yams. I’m also a POTS patient so it was difficult healthwise. My histamine levels rise rather quickly with almost everything so I make a lot of items myself (cleansers, cosmetics, etc) and I have to watch my foods carefully. I would suggest you ask for a gastric emptying test. In my case applesauce took more than 5 hours to move. I now have SIBO and am being tested for MALS. My physician is trying to see which began first. I hope they are able to get to the bottom of it sooner for you.

I had a Mesenteric Arterial Doppler test done that showed a possibility of MALS. My Cardiologist then did an imaging test of which was initially done incorrectly. They finally confirmed it when it was re-done. I was diagnosed in 2018. I had the doppler test done exactly one year prior and it showed no MALS. I am not too sure how it surfaced aside from two things: 1. I have POTS and 2. I had a chiropractic adjustment done within that year where I was adjusted very differently from the usual "gun" mechanism. During this visit I left feeling very nauseous and my body was extremely sore from within 1 hour of leaving and up until 3 days after. I fell asleep in the car on the way home and slept all day and night. The nausea began instantly after have my mid back area adjusted.) Other than those two items, the syndrome does not run in my family and I have always been pretty healthy until the POTS began in 2015.

Hi all, I have suffered with POTS for 4 years now. When it started I lost over 50 lbs in under 3 months. I was later diagnosed with MALS.

Good idea. I’m going to try both. 😊

Hi all, does anyone know if BCBS insurance covers MALS surgery? When I called them they stated I needed to know the providers name and CPT code in order to get coverage information. I talked to my physician and he did not give me either since he is not certain I will need surgery. He only stated that I would be sent to California if it is necessary. Meantime, my husband and I have post poned buying a home and pregnancy due to not knowing what this possible surgery could cost us. We’d really like to be able to plan around this and move forward. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Thank you. My understanding is that a Neurologist is different. I will know more once I get the referral. I will post it to inform. 😌

Hi @hopeful33250, I have been under more stress with all the various diagnoses’s and also with my career being on the line due to my health. That being noted, it may be emotional, although this would be the first time in my life that my emotions react in this way. 😌

The Cardiologist put me on Bisoprolol to help my heart palpitations but the internal and hand shaking still occurs-only much less. He is referring me to a body movement specialist. For me it occurs when I’m sleeping and wakes me. Meantime a few have mentioned whether or not it could be more emotional. I will see. 😌
