Thomas Jefferson’s Acceptance of “Opinions”. His mantra for accepting another’s attitude … “It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.” (Notes, 1784). If you find someone’s opinion doesn’t agree with yours, ask yourself- am I being robbed or injured? Then apply the Five Second rule of Stress- let it go like a hot potato. If you have a partner, you can honestly expect to be right HALF THE TIME (the other person, the Other Half). I'd rather be happy than right at home. "Conflict IQ" is an adult skill, learning to negotiate compromise.
Everyone, sooner or later, goes to school (or back to school). I am looking for School Stress Management tips that really work (besides dropping out)!

We need mental health curriculum early and often BEFORE emotional difficulties start crystalizing in grade school, and solidifying by high school. This is based on my 45 years of working with the schools. Emotional Literacy (i.e.pursuit of happiness) is as important as literacy itself.
Being devoted to a cause, greater than one's self, actually improves oneself! I so admire these volunteer. To me Happiness habits can be boiled down to
G.L.A.D.- Gratitude, Laughter, Acceptance and Devotion. I've had a few detours, giving me time to observe and learn and hopefully help others. Ironically, when I try to help others, I coincidentally feel better myself (but my only intention was to help others). Again,, congratulations to these awesome mentors. I like the Refuges! I take refuge in the fact that my poor brother in Wisconsin is lving in -17 BELOW weather, and down here in NC it was just 70 degrees this last week. I take refuge in our back yard pets. We have bluebird families. …. I once saw Bill Murray rolling around on the ground in central park, ACTING like he was frolicking with a squirrel. I thought to myself What a nut UNTIL I saw the SNL film crew taping the scene for TV that weekend. so with that in mind, I have followed Bill Murray in Caddy Shack, Little shop of horrors, etc. What is your REFUGE?
