Dec 20, 2018 · Tips on minimising withdrawal symptoms from Effexor (aka Venlafaxine) in Depression & Anxiety

I haven't posted in a while. I stopped tapering Effexor about a month ago when I started taking Methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis. Didn't want to confuse my body! The new medication has been difficult as it causes nausea daily. So I am staying with my 75mg tab plus 37.5 tab of Effexor. Still an improvement over the 225 mg I started out with. Anyone who has had experience with methotrexate? Original dose of 6 tabs once a week was cut to 3 tabs due to the nausea. I can handle this better, but still unpleasant. Food is important!

I took a chance and it has been ok. When it is a scheduled change I do it for a week.

Thanks for asking! Much better this morning. No crazy dreams last night. Head still buzzing but no nausea. Drank ginger tea yesterday, maybe that helped.Plan to continue with the 4bead reduction tomorrow. Will be removing 20 beads per day for next week. I think the dosage will average out. No extreme change.

It was never prescribed for me. I tried it as a natural aid for dealing with arthritis, and was surprised to find it helping with my level of anxiety. My PCP confirmed that it has this potential.
BTW yesterday for the first time in months I forgot to take the Effexor.
I had very long complex dreams this morning, felt I was hallucinating, and had to open my eyes to reorient myself. Now feeling queasy and brain buzzing. Just to remind myself why I want "off"!
Hope it doesn't last too long as I have my grandson coming to visit on Sunday.

@brightwings. Thanks for your response. This really is a community of support. We know what we are dealing with and can understand the challenges.
I am taking turmeric with bioperine, 4 capsules a day. (2 in the am and 2 in the pm.
Dosage amounts to 2000mg. I have had no adverse reaction to the turmeric. It helps with anxiety significantly, and it also helps with arthritis in my hands.
I have a very good doctor who prescribes lower doses of Effexor as I taper down.I am down to 150 mg now.
I like taking the same dose every day rather t than skipping a day.

I appreciate your information. Have been reducing my weekly dose by 4 beads daily ,going one week at a time, for the past month. No adverse effects so far. I don't care how long it takes!
Have been taking Effexor for about 7 years. It was helpful with mood and anxiety after I had maxed out on Celexa. Taking turmeric now which is helpful and life stressors are much less.
So we'll see!

I know that it takes me at least 4 weeks to start feeling like myself, and my dosage reductions have been much smaller than yours. I also experience confusion and difficulty concentrating. Perhaps a smaller reduction next time would be easier. Hang in there!

I have been gradually reducing my dosage from 225mg daily. Started when I was having problems with high blood pressure. At that time I also started Weight Watchers and have cut out caffeine, and become mindful re:salt. I think I took on too much! I have lost about 10 lbs, and my BP is much better. I am not experiencing anxiety. But I am very distractable and "out of it". Would this be considered "brain fog"?
Am taking turmeric for arthritis and feel it helps me with anxiety.
Just this week trying CBD oil and also increasing omega 3 (using flaxseed oil caps). Last dosage reduction, was about 3 weeks ago.
Now down to c.164 mg.
I am 78, grandmother and retired. Really appreciate the info I find here. Do not want to give in to this drug! Hate that it is so powerful.
