In February I had a spacer put in. They still call it a fusion I believe. At least on my paperwork it was. Its just a spacer with a plate and screws to hold it in. I can say for me it was a much better surgery than the lumbar fusion. Yes still have issues but not like low back. Recovery was easier after the intial 2 weeks. Maybe a spacer could be an option for you.

I have had a failed lumbar fusion L5 -S1 in November 2011 and a cervical fusion in February 2017. With Lumbar fusion I knew something wasnt right the 1st week. Nobody should have been in that much pain. Oh the extreme leg, feet and ankle cramps. The extreme fasiculations that they say are harmless but not when your whole muscle is going off your bone. 6 years later pain isnt any better in low back. Its my understanding nerves are wrapped up within my fusion. No dr wants to touch it. Had a dura tear too. Been to several different neurologist and i always get the impression they dont want to touch someone elses work. The neurologist that did my neck his assistant said we will just send you back to original dr. Really why would i go back there. Had to learn to walk right after. Any small dent in ground would make me fall. Tried all the standards after, nothing helps. Been in pain mgt for 6 yrs. New Dr beliefs are to lower pain meds. I was on a month reduction program. Its not working..quality of life is reduced more…Had 2 buldges in neck, they only fixed one, said other one wasnt touching spinal cord, well now hands and arms are more numb than the 1st time. Only can imagine 2 buldge is touching now. Just had recent lumbar mri and yep other disc are going bad now. What an introduction….
