Fri, May 10 9:49am · Tumid Lupus and Diet in Autoimmune Diseases

Hello! I gave up bread, potatoes, crackers, rice, pasta and a lot of sweets. I have replaced the rice, potatoes and pasta with cauliflower. I used mashed and riced cauliflower. I have increased by protein and vegetable intake. I am also making a lot more food at home. Some of the recipes are difficult to begin with but now are quite easy. I searched low carb recipes online. I also shop more in the organic aisles at local grocery stores and at natural grocers close to me. I actually saw a nutritionist yesterday since I plateaued with my weight loss. She said I was doing great and helped me to understand what else to look at on food labels. I am excited to continue my weight loss journey and see what else changes.

Hello! I started a low carb diet in November to help me lose weight and no longer be pre-diabetic. In the last two months I have noticed that my skin is completely clear and for the first time in over 13 years there are no marks on my back. I see my dermatologist towards the end of June and am very interested to see what he has to say. He has never seen my skin completely clear. I still have some of my other symptoms but it is great to not have to pick out clothes to hide my marks. Has anyone else experienced this?

Honestly they are not sure right now since my markers are also negative. The only lab result that is abnormal for me is my ESR or SED rate which is in the 50s to 60s.

I was diagnosed with Tumid Lupus about 12 years ago. No other issues at that time beyond a rash that would not go away. About 6 years ago I noticed I was always in pain and started seeing a Rheumatologist. She stated I have undifferentiated connective tissue disease but is not sure what it is. Have been on multiple meds over the years and am willing to try to help you. I also have fatigue, stomach issues, brain for and other annoying problems.

Hello! I have been on Plaquenil for about 14 years. I never thought it helped until I ran out and couldn't get a hold of my dermatologist. I always have plaques on my face, neck, upper chest and arms but it is much better with the Plaquenil. It also helps with the chronic pain. Right now I am also taking Cellcept with hopes it will decrease my SED rate to normal levels. The plaques are bright red and very itchy. I wear sunscreen all the time and stay out of the sun. It is worse in the summer due to the higher temps. If your doctor suggests Plaquenil I would use it. It has definitely helped me.

My friends and family rarely remember how hard day to day life is for me. It can be very isolating and very hard not to push everything inside yourself. I try very hard to have patience and just remind them I cannot do that or I need to rest. My parents are getting much better. I have stopped talking to my friends about it. I also am so happy everyday that mine is not systemic as well. I cannot imagine going through any more.

No I have not noticed any side effects. I really like the Elidel for my face. It’s not greasy and absorbs quickly so I put sunscreen and makeup on. Both really help with itching.

Hello! I was diagnosed with Tumid Lupus in 2006 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. I am on multiple medications at this point. Hydroxychloroquine, Imuran and prednisone are my main Lupus meds. I also use Elidel cream on my face and Clobetasol on my body. What are some of your symtoms?
