Jul 24, 2018 · Microinvasive breast cancer and positive senitel lympyh node in Breast Cancer

I had two types of breast cancer according to my surgical pathology report. IDC and DCIS with microinvasion. I believe this is pretty common as I think the IDC comes from the DCIS. The tumor itself was very small, only 20 mm, which is slightly less than an inch. I had a lumpectomy and radiation, but refused chemo because no lymph nodes involved. My surgeon says I've had a charmed recovery, so I feel very blessed.

Jun 28, 2018 · Breast Surgery; any advice to prepare for surgery? in Breast Cancer

Don't understand your biopsy results, but as for preparing for surgery be in good health and be prayerful. My surgeon at Mayo held me and prayed for me before surgery. It really put me in a peaceful place. A grade one tumor is the least cancerous and usually slow growing. That's good. I'm assuming the tumor is large since you are on anastrozole?? Did they biopsy your lymph nodes? Will they do an Oncotype dx test? Wishing you an easy recovery.

May 1, 2018 · lump in Breast Cancer

I've had benign cysts in the past. They are usually roundish, or oval, with smooth edges. Just to be safe, I'm guessing they will want a mammo. I would insist on at least a mammo.

Apr 27, 2018 · Mammograms after the age of 80 necessary? in Breast Cancer

Oh, gosh, I sure hope they don't cut me off at that age. I was almost 70 at diagnosis, and my radiation oncologist told me he had many patients in their 90s. How would they find the cancer if you don't have mammograms?

Apr 20, 2018 · What problems have you had with Tamoxifen? in Breast Cancer

I was on anastrozole, then femara. Had horrific joint pain with both. And lots of thinning hair. Even though I'm 71, they put on tamoxifen, and I'm tolerating it much better. I have noticed a bit of itching, and abdominal pain as if I was ovulating. But it's far better than the AIs.

Apr 20, 2018 · Fear of radiation after lumpectomy in Breast Cancer

My radiation oncologist told me radiation offered a risk reduction of 55% to 60% for recurrence. Since my negative margin was only .5 mm, I went ahead with radiation and tolerated it well. I had all treatments on my back, and the technique did not affect my heart or lungs despite the tumor being quite deep. I did, however, refuse chemo. That only offered a 3% risk reduction. Totally not worth it in my book.

Apr 19, 2018 · Overmedication with cancer and other conditions in Head & Neck Cancer

Judy, I also take a list of meds, not quite as many as you, but more than I'd like. When I go to an oncology appointment, or see my primary physician, the nurse or aide will ask me if there are any changes to my meds. That is the only person who ever reviews my meds. Wouldn't you think they should know this?! Does make me a little nervous sometimes. I've discovered some interactions by doing my own research. When I mentioned it to them, they take full credit for discovering it. Hmmm. Unfortunately, I'm required to order my meds through an online pharmacy (Express Scripts), and I truly doubt they check for interactions. However, they do send volumes of paperwork with each prescription. I've learned the hard way to be my own advocate, even though I have very little medical knowledge.

Apr 5, 2018 · Concerned about the side effects of anastrozole in Breast Cancer

Mollymiller: I'm 71, 18 months out from initial diagnosis. I do low-impact aerobics, yoga, walking, and some light weights. It does help, but certainly doesn't eliminate all the pain. I go to our local Fitness Center for classes, and then we "seniors" go to coffee afterwards. Good luck to you!
