Actually, I believe that the opioids are no longer effective. I was warned by a surgeon about 7 years ago that if you take them too long, they won’t work when you really, really need them. That is where I am and have begun a program to wean off gradually. I will just have to deal with the pain I have. So within 6 months or less I will really know how much pain I do have.

I believe your statement. When I was referred by my doctor to the pain clinic in Fargo, there was no other discussion other than the implant. No conversation about medications or a morphine pump that the same company manufactured. They were eager to attach the “trial” run on me, but I declined. You take care sir.

I buy Wigwam brand diabetic socks, mostly white and the largest size they have. I cannot wear anything else.

John, I am with you with the socks. I buy Wigwam brand diabetic socks. The only brand that I can stand to wear with shoes or without. I also wear them to bed because even the feel of sheets, blankets bother my feet.

I really do not know what to say except you are a pretty tough person. I suffer only from constant foot pain and feel badly but you are much worse off than I am. My problems did make me a much more spiritual person. Take care.

They tried to push the spinal stimulator on me as well. I didn’t like what I read in the disclaimer. My friend had one implanted and it took away about 50% of his back pain. He is “so so” on using it. I think Medtronic makes a good living on it as well as the doctor.

Hi Laurie, thanks for your input. My doctor would refer me somewhere but it doesn’t sound like Minnesota is an option right now. I am visiting Phoenix in February and they have marijuana clinics which have been around for a while. I am going to set up an appointment there. If that doesn’t work out I may just spend a week in Colorado and test it “legally” there. Whatever happens I will let you know. I also have been on opiates for quite a while but the effectiveness is not very good anymore. Doctor wants me to lower intake also but there is NO other option. The Mpls company Medtronic makes two different spinal cord implants, one is a TENS type and one is a morphine pump. My Neurologist says they are “last resort”.

My Neuropathy supposedly was caused by my type 2 diabetes and if not, there is no specific reason. I have tried Lyrica which was quite expensive but offered no relief. I take Gabapentin and Cymbalta but have not gotten relief. I use opiates which helped a lot the first few years but no longer seem effective. My next step will be researching medical marijuana. The last resort are two implanted devices that Medtronic manufactures, however, the Neurologist called them “last resort” options.
