In honor and celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the Commonweal Theatre from historic Lanesboro, MN will present a staged reading of the Bernard Pomerance play The Elephant Man at Mayo Clinic, Rochester on September 26, 2018.
The piece is the true life story of Joseph (John) Merrick, a man born with a genetic disease leaving him horribly disfigured. Just as Shelley’s landmark novel did, The Elephant Man shines a bright light on what it means to be human, delves into the arena of science and medicine and ultimately proves that true beauty lies in the eye of the beholder
