Why did the optometrist ask this?

Why did the optometrist ask if I saw flashes of light, I said sometimes and then they just kinda did nothing about it. It was sort of the only thing they asked me too. My eyes were healthy though.

I believe it might have something to do with the retina, I had a tear in my right eye which required laser surgery and two years later it happened to my left eye also requiring laser surgery. The biggest symptom of a torn retina is an flashing on light but it doesn’t go away without treatment.

@frouke that happened to me too. All of a sudden I saw black “webs”, dots etc. Next morning I eye was painful. I got laser surgery.
6 weeks later I had it happen in the other eye.

Wow!!! A tear or detachment of the retina is an emergency. It can deteriorate rapidly if not treated ASAP. My mom has a detachment in one eye and it was treated (surgery 3 hours later) Did not tell me about vision issue in other eye and ii progessed to full detachment over the macula and her vision in that eye could not be saved. Flashes or a sudden increase in floaters is an indication of possible retinal issue. You have a good optometrist.
