Have you had surgery for wet macular degeneration?

Was just tested for macular degeneration and found I had wet in left eye. Was immediately given an injection(no problem) and will go back in 6 weeks to test again and see if I need another injection. If caught early treatment should stop and/or slow the progression. Sooner the treatment the better.

To Guspierce: in what geographic area did you get this injection? Do you know what was injected?

The injection of Avastin(chemo drug) was in the outside corner of my left eye. Look for Avastin on Google and you will find several good websites that explain the drug and procedure.

I had read about Avastin on the web, and another that starts with an R. My ophthamolghist told me a year ago that he saw some wet MD. He did not mention anything but omega 3 with fish oil supplement and an antioxidant with luiten. I have been researching on my own and will going back to him in a month or so. My permanent residence is Canton, OH--not the best place for progressive medical treatment. My husband and I spend winters in AZ near the Mayo Clinic so I do have options. By any chance is your doctor near the AZ Mayo Clinic?

My retina specialist(Dr. Calonje) is in Tucson. My eye doctor scheduled me to see the specialist within two days of diagnosing me with fluid behind the macula. The reason being that the sooner it is treated the better the results. I would personally want a second opinion from a retina specialist.

I am going to contact the Cleveland Clinic tomorrow to get an appointment with a retina specialist. Thank you so much.
