Weaning off Breo

I would like to try life without Breo. I would use Albuterol 2 times a day if needed. Has anyone with mild to moderate COPD weaned from this drug? Also, does anyone find that using this drug causes more lung congestion (mucus) being coughed up?

Hello. Yes, I am on BREO Ellipta. I have moderate COPD, and I do very well on this medication without side effects. I’ve been on it for about three years and did try to use it only when I thought I needed it instead of a steady daily dose. I could tell the difference. Also, I never had any lung congestion ever. The irritation I have with BREO is the cost; it is expensive until your deductible is met, and still about $75 a month after I met the deductible.

@jenben59 I have a lot of congestion and am working on ways to decrease that. I have osteoporosis and have been on this medication for 3 years. My osteoporosis is worse, not blaming the Breo solely, but it can be a factor. Just would like to give my body a break while I work on some things that are natural, healthy eating, weight bearing exercises, etc.

@joycecates Thanks for the information. I have osteoporosis but it is like just at the first level(?) not extreme and is only in L4, L5, and S1. I am really trying to improve with better diet, exercise, and increase in Vitamins D, K, and calcium. I was prescribed a pill but I got very concerned about side effects, the possibility of a broken thigh bone, and possibility of jaw bone problems. It is almost a gamble to try to improve one problem and you may end up with another. what do you think?

Exactly, which is why I won't fall for the medication trap....too many problems. My osteoporosis has progressed because I did not heed the warning 10 years ago at osteopenia. I treated it like my life was a dress rehearsal instead of heeding the warning. I just want to give my body a break from the steroids in Breo. My physician feels that the steroids in Breo are not enough to worry about. I disagree. They even state on the commercials that it may lead to bone loss, and they specifically mention osteoporosis. I just want a break and hope that I can do this for a while.
