Via Disc NP Allograft procedure ?
I am new to this group. I am a 76 yr old female who has suffered with chronic lower back pain for many years. My question is has anyone had the Via Disc NP Allograft procedure for chronic lower back pain? I’ve already had extensive physical therapy, epidural injections and RFA (Radiofrequency Ablation on L3, L4, L5) and none of these worked at all. My pain management doctor is now suggesting I have the ViaDisc NP Allograft procedure? I am considering this, but need to find others who have had this done and to hear feedback about their personal experiences.

I could only find a 35 person clinical prospective study rather than refereed research studies. The allograft of disc material is harvested from a person who agreed to be an organ donor.

1 ReactionI had two of the injections. It has helped with my lower back pain. It's not totally gone, but I'm able to function better than before the injections. I have had many steroid injections, a stimulator implant that didn't help, and 2 ablations.
Good luck!

3 Reactions@besmith57 How was the initial recovery? Lots of pain? My 2 procedures are scheduled in the same week on a Tuesday and Thursday.
Are you talking about Viadisc? The first one made me feel like I was hit by a Mack truck. It was because of my position on the table. It made my shoulders and back hurt the next day. It was muscles not being used before, I think. I can't sleep on my stomach, as that's how they had me with a pillow. The last one, I felt fine because I just laid flat with no extra support. Make sure you're comfortable in your position before they start, and you should be fine. The injection doesn't hurt. I had to wait 2 weeks before my second injection. I would do it again now that I know how to position myself. If you're a stomach sleeper, you shouldn't have any problems.
Had 2-level VIA Disc procedure yesterday. L3/L4 and L4/L5 this week. The procedure itself was fairly painful but bearable. Was sore from the procedure and had some initial back muscle stiffness. Today I'm feeling much great. There was a Vivex (VIA Disc company) doctor present during the procedure too. Got to chat with him afterwards. Already enjoying relief from my disc pain which should be fully realized within a month or so, but just the structural support from the allograft has already reduced the referred pain in my left hip, leg, and foot. I am so glad I had this done. Best I've felt in many years.
So I am being advised for this procedure. Battling disk degeneration for the last 30 years. Steroid injections and PT have been my saving grace but the are working much less effectively. Here are my concerns. I live alone and still work from home and not work I can do from a recliner on a laptop. My body also seems to love to find any of those obscure side effects of drugs and medications so some of these stories scare the hell outta me. In addition I cannot tolerate any of the usual narcotic pain meds. I’ve had hip and knee replacements and I don’t go near them, and what ever was put in a pain pump, that I didn’t ask for, after a rotator cuff repair that had me violently vomiting, oh and absolutely no NSAIDS if I wish to keep my digestive system. So Tramadol and Tylenol are what’s left. So my questions are; besides the pain and possible muscle spasms what else might I expect; how long before I am able to sit at computer to work and how long before I can drive? Also the doc wants do the other discs in the lumbar area, is the pain equally as bad for each injection of would the adjustments be less painful for subsequent procedures? They are anxious to schedule being the end of the year but after two years I’m still dealing with issues from the knee replacement which is also not helping my back. So many questions!!!
