Venaseal

Posted by brownstar57 @brownstar57, Feb 11 6:34am

I have severe reflux in GSV on the rt leg from knee to foot. I had total vein stripping of the left GSV in 1998 and now have a spot just above the ankle that bleeds at times. I’m to have Venaseal done in march. Anyone have advice on this?

Hello @brownstar57,

I'd like to invite @bshiver, @dizzyprizzy and @atufte who mentioned undergoing or being scheduled for a venaseal procedure and they may be able to share what to expect and what their experiences were.

@brownstar57, you mentioned some bleeding in your ankle, is this a result from your procedure in 1998 or is a progression of your severe reflux in leg? Was the Venaseal suggested to help stop the occasional bleeding or are there other symptoms that need to be addressed?

@brownstar57 I underwent right TKR on 8/2/2023 & after left knee replacement on 11/1/2023, I developed a DVT (11/2023) in my left leg. Sometime after healing from TKR and the DVT, there was evidence of blood pooling in both legs, left worse than right. My legs were feeling weighty I guess is how I would explain it. My cardiologist recommended having the Venaseal on my left leg first. The procedure was done in the office by use of ultrasound and by inserting a catheter up in a vein to the "diseased" vein and sealing it closed with glue. I really had no discomfort. I was in and out in probably 30 minutes and returned some days later to ensure that the procedure was successful. A week or two later when I returned to undergo the Venaseal procedure on my right leg, the technician said that I no longer needed it on my right leg. Why? He said, that it happens frequently that the blood flow from the first leg corrects the flow of the other leg. I really had no issues whatsoever with my procedure. Please feel free to ask any questions.
