Triggers for Sleep Disorders

Posted by @ssorenson in Brain & Nervous System, Aug 6, 2012

Two and a half years ago I participated in a sleep study and the results came back clean. Last week I participated in a sleep study and was diagnosed as positive for obstructive sleep apnea, restless limb syndrome and REM Behavior Disorder? Where can I look to find those factors which would have triggered this change?

Up until this year I trained for and competed in at least one Half Ironman triathlon a year. I each a balanced diet and take supplements. My body fat percentage is under 25% and BMI is fine.

Hi S Sorenson,
Sounds like you are very driven. Perhaps a stressful lifestyle is contributing. I would recommend Upledger's CranioSacral Therapy to ratchet your stress level down and rebalance your body overall. At least three sessions right in a row from a highly qualified therapist, then Yoga which focuses on breathing and relaxation. How you mentally react to life could be another contributor. Are you a perfectionist? Though I don't have your complete health history, these are a couple things to think about. Bringing balance back to your life might be key. Otherwise, keep seeking different kinds of diagnoses such as acupuncture, nutritional bloodwork or other alternative methods. Good luck!
