treatment resistant depression

Posted by @nancychicago in Mental Health, Feb 13, 2012

I have treatment resistent depression and have tried every class of drugs over the past decade, I have a vegal nerve stimulator. My depression is currently approching crisis level. Has anyone been to mayo for treatment resistent depression for evaluation, electroshock, or other? If so, can you describe the facilities, care, etc? Recoomendations for traveling there alone? I have been hospitalized before but I am looking for something beyond Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I've been in therapy for the better part of 25 years. I am divorced with two children and am out od local options. Thank you.

I just got home from a 9 day inpatient therapy. They do focus on CBT but that is only one of the classes, there are many many more classes that they do. I've made some life long friends there, the staff was great, you have your own room and bathroom (which was nice), they have exercise equipment, the doctors were great, and I have come home a new person. The psych hospital is actually in the generose building. The number is 507-255-5261. It is worth it to go. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any other help.

I have been dealing with treatment resistant depression for many years. Any suggestions of how to manage being around others when I really don't want to be around people at all. I also struggle with a digestive disorder which Mayo has yet to diagnose although another doctor and several nurses have said I appear to have a protein malabsorption problem. Unfortunately my bloodwork always appears normal (even whe n I have infections my white blood count doesn't go up) and tests come back showing no problems. Has anyone an idea of proteins that are easily digestable (I have an ileostomy which keeps me from fruits and vegetables). I can't take soy because of medication I am on and the predigested drinks make me throw up.Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I am feeling quite discouraged and somewhat hopeless at this time.
