Today’s (10/30/25) psa test

Posted by johndavis60 @johndavis60, 2 days ago

Was .05, down from .06 two weeks ago. I should probably be happy but I’m a little disappointed . Was looking for .03. My radiation oncologist says psa might fluctuate a little in the short term but in a couple months I should see results from the radiation. I don’t know how some of you deal with this long term. I guess I’ll learn 🙂

I know some people that it took three years before their PSA hit the minimum after radiation. Other people it took two years. Most people it’s a lot quicker.

The fact that it keeps going down is great news.

Hang in there, John! Although it appears you're getting a PSA test every 2 weeks and that would drive me absolutely nuts. Curious as to why so often.

you are doing fine. PSA can fluctuate for many reasons.. you are almost at undetectable levels..relax.. dont go buy worry..I am fairly new at this too but I think a steady rise over 6-9 months might warrant concern- if you go over .2

He is actually undetectable. < .1 Is considered undetectable. Is arriving on stage Santiago Guido cheers. Even though there is ultra sensitive PSA, that’s what the doctors consider undeductible.

@mjp0512 I’m getting tested every two weeks for liver functions because my doctor started me on abiraterone. She throws in the PSA test as well. After my 1st 3 months of bi-weekly testing I will go to once a month and then eventually once every 3 months.

@jeffmarc yes..my doc presented me with my latest bloodwork/ PSA today- < .02...said he was glad for me..I am undetectable..at least for now but said 24 months ADT ( after I finish radiation) gives me my best chance at long term remission/cure..I have just finished 4 months ADT so I guess I have 20 more to go..finally feeling like I turned the corner from most miserable summer of my life-PSA 70 and Gleason 8 w/ 2 pelvic lymph nodes involved...time will tell ...can I do 20 more months ADT ? gotta try !

Exercise is very important to eliminate the fatigue and other problems that ADT causes.

As I’ve said, I run 1 mile twice a day. At first, I didn’t have the stamina to run the whole way and I took electrolytes which helped. After doing it for about three or four months, I now have the stamina to run without the electrolytes. I’ve gotten on my treadmill when it was raining and set it for 3.6. and ran a mile Without stopping. I’ve only been able to run for the last six months, Had to get my left knee replaced before I was able to run without falling. It really does help the fatigue.

Also, you really need to go to the gym or do weightlifting at least three times a week. Do a lot of sit ups so your stomach muscles don’t deteriorate too much. Do arm and leg weight exercises, which will keep it so that you can get off the floor without having to lean on something. Your muscles deteriorate quickly on ADT so this really makes a difference.

I’ll be 78 in 2 weeks and I Rebuilt my muscles after almost 9 years on ADT.

If you get a lot of hot flashes say something, and I can help you. If you’re getting them at night, that’s something there is an easy solution to.

Congrats on another very low result!

As others have mentioned, you're bouncing around inside the normal test variability. Think of 0.06, 0.05, or even 0.03 as all essentially the same result: undetectable on the regular PSA test, *barely* detectable on the ultrasensitive test.

That’s a good number.

Because I had ADT in conjunction with my initial 28 proton radiation treatments (April-May 2021), my PSA dropped quickly;
~ 7.976: pre-treatment
~ 0.224: last day of treatment
~ 0.008: 6 weeks later
~ < 0.008: 3 months later
~ 0.008: 3 months later
~ 0.130: 6 weeks later (nadir)
~ 0.198: 6 weeks later
:
~ 0.473: 4 months ago

So, my PSA results kind of hide what was due to the radiation and what was due to the ADT. (Mine was probably mostly from the ADT.)

Your results will vary,
