TKR Total Revision Inquiry
TKR x5.5 years ago. Top element has bone decay around element and joint is full of steril fluid. Revision / replacement will be necessary at some point per Dr. Truesdale. Looking at scheduling for winter. I'm 62 and very active. Knee is really limiting higher level activity but can still golf regularly and traverse distances under a mile. Wearing a knee brace helps a lot. Any input/experiences positive or negative from TKR revision survivors would be appreciated. Initial TKR recovery was horrible first 4 weeks and knee has always been swelled, stiff and sore. Hoping for better results with revision with Dr T but apprehensive about bigger procedure of total revision. Thanks.

I tried looking at some of his work but it is hidden behind a pay wall.
He does appear to be very well qualified.
Dr. Trousdale did my third TKR on the same knee last July and I have nothing but praise for his work. He is awesome.
That is awesome. He seems very knowlegable and condident. If I may ask why a 2nd revision?
I had a revision the second time but still had too much pain with every step and my knee was not straight. Dr. Trousdale did a total replacement with longer pieces into the bones on both ends of the joint to give me more support and that made the difference.

1 ReactionTotal Knee Replacement Revision is usually a bigger and slower recovery than the original knee replacement, but many people with loosening implants, bone loss and chronic fluid buildup still end up with better pain relief, stability and function afterward, especially if they were active before surgery and use an experienced revision surgeon, although swelling and stiffness can still take months to improve so most patients say the key is having realistic expectations and deciding whether living with the failing knee has become harder than going through another recovery.

2 ReactionsVery well put. That’s my dilemma. Leaning towards committing next winter and it’s entirety to recovery of PT.
I am 5 years out and will be having surgery to figure out why all the fluid in my joint, of which has been aspirated once. There remains fluid, and this restricts my movements. Xray shows possiblility of the plate on my knee cap is lifting? When radiated the knee cap has a very high uptake, nothing else shows. Like that you find a knee brace helpful, can you be more specifics to what type or brand etc?
@stretch101 Neo G Hinged Brace from Wahlgreens. Quite helpful. Have you scheduled your surgery?
@merciebj Thank you for this...Surgery is June 26th

Could I ask what has necessitated 3 TKR‘s on the same knee?
I’m glad you had good experiences at least.
