Tired of breathing like this: Rapid breathing and shortness of breath

Posted by patientk @patientk, Mar 7, 2021

I've been breathing rapidly with shortness of breath and cough for over two months I've tried asthma medication I've tried cough drops I've tried cough pills I know that the rapid breathing and shortness of breath is from low potassium but since I'm getting false normal potassium labs I will not be able to get my breathing fixed and once I get the runs go to emergency for low potassium and get my breathing fixed I go back home and then I'm told to continue the asthma medication and the antiacid which could be depleting my potassium and as soon as I start taking them again the breathing problems return and I'm wondering if I'm just supposed to go around like this for the rest of my life

@patientk, I strongly suggest you read this discussion on Mayo Clinic Connect:

I see you also posted more information about your symptoms in the Autoimmune Diseases group here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/immune-condition-that-affects-hcg-and-potassium-lab/

It sounds like you've got a number of things going on and few answers. First a few questions. How do you know that you have low potassium levels if the lab results show normal levels? Have you consulted your doctor or been referred to a specialist?
