Has anyone who has Graves’ disease, have a child with Hashimoto’s disease or an child have Graves’? Thanks!
there has been a child in our family born with leukodystrophy. both parents had the gene for the mutant enzyme but there is no screening for this disease or perhaps there is but unless the parents know about it, they can’t bring it to their dr’s attention. i think had they known of a genetic predisposition, they may have gotten tested prior. sorry i don’t know anyone with graves dis or hashimoto.
Thanks for responding. I had graves disease in my 20’s and one of my daughter’s had hashimoto in her early 20’s and I am concerned about my granddaughter. I was interested to see if there are problems we might need to be on the aware of.
can you tell me the symptoms and diagnosis for both Graves and HASHIMOTO. excuse my ignorance
Graves is when the thyroid is on ‘overdrive’ and hashimoto is when the thyroid is on ‘slow speed’. Graves will evidetually kill you. I had a great aunt that died of graves in her early 30’s. Graves disease in our family develops early in life but generally most folks get Graves later in life. President Bush and Barbara Bush develdoped Graves after he left office.
is there any other component or is it the common hypo and hyper
thx for filling me in. thyroid does seem to be the master of the body. i have a friend with hyperactive and she is now on a gluten-frre milk-free diet. she’s feeling much better. also she goes to a naturopath and with her md they have devised certain herbs for her.
Interesting! The daughter who has hashimoto’s daughter is on a gluten-free diet. I wonder if there is a connection.
My daughter was diagnosed with Grave’s a year ago. Her symptoms were inability to sit still, weight loss (15 lbs in 2 months), bed wetting and rapid heart rate. Hope that helps.
How old is your daughter? Do you or do you know of anyone in the family who has had Graave’s Disease? Thanks!
She had just turned 7, 2 weeks before she was finally diagnosed. I found out a month later that I have a paternal aunt who had Grave’s and was treated with RAI about 10 years ago.
I was in my mid 20’s when I was diagnosed and I had a great aunt who died of Graves in her 30’s. I actually found an old family photo with her and all her sisters in long dresses and the big bows in their hair. She was my maternal grandmother’s sister or my great aunt similar to your family dynamics so it seems it can be in a family line.
I had all but 2% of my thyroid removed because the doctors weren’t sure of the long term effects of radiation on the body. My four year old granddaughter is have issues at school which they are saying are sensory issues. I called my daughter this morning and asked if they had done any blood test for thyroid problems and she said the doctors don’t want to do the test. She said at the next checkup she planned to insist on te test. This is the same daughter that has Hashimoto Disease. (This is a thyroid that is functioning too slow.)
Thanks for responding!
You’re welcome! Tell her that she has to be firm…the original pediatrician my daughter was seeing insisted that the bed wetting was a regression thing and that the attention issues were “normal behavior for this age.” I really had to fight and ended up going around the pediatrician to my daughter’s endo to get the tests done. Keep in mind too that things change over time…my daughter’s thyroid levels were normal when she was tested 6 months before she was diagnosed! Good luck and keep me posted!
ThanksI I will.
